David Stephenson

David Stephenson is a widely published poet whose work has appeared in The Formalist, The Lyric, Slant, Blue Unicorn, Measure, Tar River Poetry, Snakeskin, California Quarterly, Able Muse, and many other journals.  His collection Rhythm and Blues won the Richard Wilbur Award and was published by the University of Evansville Press in 2008.  His second collection, Wall of Sound, was published by Kelsay Books in 2022.  He also received the Margaret Haley Carpenter and Fluvana Prizes from The Lyric magazine, and was a six-time finalist for the Howard Nemerov Sonnet Award.  He has edited Pulsebeat Poetry Journal since 2021.

 

Stephenson was an engineer by profession and worked primarily in the automotive industry.  He is best known in this field for the reference work Metal Cutting Theory and Practice, which he co-authored with J. S. Agapiou.  He received his B. S. and M. S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and his Ph.D. in the same discipline from the University of Wisconsin.  He retired from engineering in 2022.  He lives in Detroit with his wife, the chemist Maria Clelia Milletti.
