Robin Eichele

Robin Eichele was born in Santa Monica, California and grew up in Wilmington, Delaware and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He has lived in such geographies as Detroit, Houston, New Orleans, London, Los Angeles and Minneapolis. His institutional education took him to Monteith College at Wayne State University and The London School of Film Technique.

 He has taken to the road on numerous auto-didact investments, climbing in the Andes of Peru, trekking to visit the Jivaro in the jungles of Ecuador, shopping for fast cars in Italy, scouting Generalissimo Franco’s old castle outside of Madrid for a film shoot, freezing on a walk around Stonehenge on a drive from London to Exeter U, meditating at Buddhist shrines in Nara.

The spawn of Whitman, Dickinson and the Black Mountain School luminaries – primarily Olson, Duncan and Creeley – Eichele has been writing poetry for over fifty years. Currently, to buy oil for the lamp, he scribes and produces sponsored and corporate documentaries, communications and learning programs.

 His poetry, fiction and photography have appeared in such publications and programs as Wild Dog, Synapse, The Ant’s Forefoot, WORK, Changes, IS., Magazine and Wayland. Previous publications include Runes, Artists Workshop Press, Detroit, 1965, Untitled Selected Poems, Island Press, Toronto,1966, Kick Out the Jams: Detroit’s Cass Corridor 1963-1977 (DIA 1980), RESPECT – The Poetry of Detroit Music ed. by Daniels & Liebler, MSU Press, 2020. His eBook Sleeping With Dolphins was released by CAPthat Productions Press in 2009. And, one of his photographs of Charles Olson at the Berkeley Poetry Conference 24 July 1965 appears in Muthologos – Charles Olson Lectures and Interviews ed. by Maud, Talon Books, 2010.

 Eichele was one of the original founders of the Detroit Artists’ Workshop Society in1964, where he worked to help build the Detroit Artists’ Workshop Press.  He has read his work as part of the Young Poets program at the 1965 Berkeley Poetry Conference and for audiences over the years on NPR, the Detroit Festival of the Arts, M.L. Liebler’s The Living Room Online Literary Series, The John Sinclair Radio Show on Radio Free Amsterdam 2021 and an untold number of bookstore and festival poetry events.  He currently resides with his wife, Kathleen somewhere west of Detroit in the state of Michigan.
