The stories of three men on death row are entwined in the notorious Itzedin prison in Kalami, Crete during the years between 1950 and 1960. Panos, a political prisoner, Odysseas, a painter of icons, and Menelaos, a shepherd?they all await their execution. The first one is convicted because of his involvement in the Resistance with the leftists, the other two are convicted of the murder of their wives, although they were innocent.

YANNIS PHILLIS
Yannis A. Phillis was born in Nauplion, Greece. He holds a degree in electrical and mechanical engineering from the Technical University of Athens and a PhD in systems engineering from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). He has taught at UCLA, Boston University, universities of Ecuador and the Technical University of Crete where he is Professor Emeritus and was Rector for twelve years.
